Hadassah Emmerich’s
works are noted for their strong use of colors and large size. She
makes noticeably large drawings that incorporate various materials and
techniques. With charcoal, ink and acrylics, she creates different layers
in her compositions that produce an intriguing atmosphere. Her colorful
pictures are a projection of her desires and dreams that focus on beauty
and horror, hopes and fears, dreams and hallucinations.
During a trip to Indonesia she was confronted with
her roots, an experience that turned out to have a large impact on the
development of her work.
Hadassah Emmerich’s
latest work features profuse colors and floral motifs. In her lustrous
imagery she seeks not only to feature exotic flowers, but also links to
the beliefs and rituals of Indonesian culture. Recognizable elements are
linked by lines that curve their way around vegetation. Sometimes she
hides words or sentences between her images. Growth, prime and decay are
fused together in her work providing it with a poetic and mysterious
character.
After her
studies at the Fine Art Academy in Maastricht, Hadassah Emmerich followed
a postgraduate study in Antwerp.
In 2005 Emmerich finished her study at the Goldsmith’s
