Dafni
Barbageorgopoulou’s (1977, Johannesburg) practise focuses on the mapping op sculptural
forms into space, the outcome of which brings together qualities that
are ancient, and futuristic at once. Looking at the dreaming and
travelling experience, her working processes investigates the ways in
which materials can be configured to capture nuances of systems of mind
and matter. Central to this inquiry is the exploration of bodily
experience, seeing the body as a sensor of rhythm, with a
ritualistic/erotic pulse towards transformation.
Barbageorgopoulou studied sculpture at the Athens Fine Art Academy (BFA)
and at the Royal College of Art in London (MA, 2006). She has had solo
exhibitions at Kunstlerhaus Bethanien, Berlin (2010) and at Galerie
Akinci, Amsterdam (2011), Breeder, Athens (2011). Barbageorgopoulou
participated in group shows at the Liverpool Biennial (2006) and among
other galleries in Europe. She received the Propondis Scholarship
Founndation in 2009 and The Royal College of Art fun support (UK) from
2004 until 2006. |
